Virginia and Duke have waged some close contests in their regular season showdowns the past several seasons, but the Blue Devils have made a habit of ripping the Hoos’ hearts out near the end too often. That trend continued Wednesday night as Duke broke open a nip-and-tuck game in the final five minutes. The Double Bonus is back to look at some of the details.

Three years ago in the regular season meeting, Rasheed Sulaimon bounced in a 3-pointer in the final 20 seconds and Duke won, 69-65. Two years ago, Tyus Jones got hot late and the Devils stole one late, 69-63. Last season, Grayson Allen tip-toed Duke into the winner’s circle at the buzzer, 63-62. On Wednesday night, Jayson Tatum joined the Mortal Kombat club as he hit a trio of 3-pointers in the final five seconds of the shot clock during the second half and the visitors prevailed 65-55.

Yuck. Yuck. Double Yuck. Yuck.

Still, there’s no time to dwell on it for the Hoos. After hosting the TV spectacle the past two seaons, they get the opposite side of ESPN’s College GameDay experience on Saturday night at league-leading North Carolina.
