Choosing UVA An Easy Decision For LB Matt Gahm

Highland Park (Dallas, TX) rising senior Matt Gahm admits he has “always been very intrigued” by the University of Virginia.

“I’ve known about its academics for a long time,” he said. “That’s the first thing I’m looking for in a school. High academics in general, but finding a business school that’s highly ranked is important to me and I know Virginia’s is highly ranked. I was highly interested in Virginia from day one, and then when I look at coach Mendenhall and all he did at BYU I became even more interested.”

UVA’s pursuit of the 6’3”, 220-pound linebacker prospect began in May, during the middle of Highland Park’s spring football practice. That’s when Cavalier assistant coach Jason Beck stopped by to watch a Scots’ spring workout.

“He saw me practice and then I spoke with him at length,” Gahm recalled. “Since then, we have been e-mailing. Coach Beck always wanted me to visit [on June 18]. I planned that a while ago. We had been communicating back and forth for the best camp date. Coach Beck notified the other coaches that I would be participating [in last Friday’s camp].”
