Anyone who played or watched Little League baseball probably can recall this scenario. A runner takes a lead from first base, while the pitcher comes to a set stretch position on the mound. The pitcher starts to lift his back foot off the rubber. “BACK!” yells the first base coach, possibly echoed by others.

That coach knows what’s coming.

On Indiana’s sideline Saturday, a similar scene played out at times. The Virginia football team’s offense lined up for a snap and a chorus rang out from the Indy bench. “SCREEN!” A quick tackle later, cheers came from that same chorus. The defense had a hunch what was coming.

That’s not an unusual thing on the sidelines. Countless times last season, the Cavalier sidelines shouted “DRAW!” in unison during the Central Michigan contest. UVA cornerback Juan Thornhill said he knew a wheel route was coming on his interception Saturday against IU based on film study.
