Back when I was doing radio covering the Hoos with my dear friend Chuck Brugh, we were playing some postgame audio of former Virginia defensive end Chris Canty. It came to mind looking at this week’s Duke grades.
Asked during a pretty good stretch of football how the Cavaliers were maintaining their poise and consistency, he said, “We do it one play at a time! One play at time! One series at a time! One drive at a time! One quarter …!” You get the point.
Which brings me to two quotes from coach Bronco Mendenhall’s comments following the Virginia football team’s 28-21 win over Duke.
“I like to be not too high and not too low and just consistent so the players know what it’s going to be like every day,” Mendenhall said. “There is routine, there is structure, there is accountability, there is discipline.”
