Will Ahmad Brooks start against Temple? Probably not. Does it matter? Probably not. Virginia coach Al Groh made it clear that Brooks will see significant action in Saturday’s season opener, including a likely role as a kick returner.

In a depth chart released to reporters before Groh’s press conference Monday, Brooks was listed behind Rich Bedesem at inside linebacker. Bedesem has worn the orange jersey of a starting defender throughout the preseason, while Brooks has worn blue. Brooks, who led the team in tackles as a true freshman last season, also left training camp for two days for undisclosed reasons before returning Aug. 19.

Asked how Brooks has played since his return, Groh said. “Very well. He’s played the same since camp started, very well.”
