Surfing UVa: The Temple Game

Temple quarterback Walter Washington may have said it best following his team’s 30-point loss to Virginia. “I didn’t anticipate that kind of pressure,” he said. “They forced me to throw a lot of bad balls and make a lot of bad reads.”

What Washington was really saying is that this UVa team looked entirely different than the one he had reviewed on film. Defensively, the Cavs were much more active, faster to the ball and very disruptive – the things that the staff focused on throughout the off-season and during preseason preparations. The two fumbles early in the game completely changed the momentum and flow in the Wahoos’ favor. UVa’s aggressive style of play created those turnovers.

The Best Played that Way

The UVa linebackers played with the type of discipline expected with the return of Rich Bedesem along with the continuing maturation of Kai Parham and Ahmad Brooks . The
play of the inside trio forced the Temple attack wide and eliminated one of its key weapons, the running of Washington.
