High school sprinters can cover 100 yards in less than 12 seconds. Akron’s offense had 28 minutes and 10 seconds of possession time this afternoon but was only able to muster 84 yards. The difference is that high school sprinters don’t have to go through the Virginia defense.

The 84 yards were the fewest the Cavaliers have allowed in a game since 1979, when they yielded 51 to VMI.

“That’s a great performance,” senior end Chris Canty said of the defense he captains. “Any time you can hold a team under 100 yards of total offense – that’s amazing, that’s unheard of.”
