Commitment Update: Chris Cook

Although Heritage (Lynchburg, VA) didn’t have the season he envisioned (6-4 record, no playoff berth), Head Coach Chris Jones was extremely impressed with the play and leadership of talented senior Chris Cook . The soft-spoken Cook, a 6-2, 190-pound prospect who played tailback, wide receiver and defensive back for Jones, enjoyed a break out senior season.

“He played fantastic this year,” Jones said of Cook. “He had 1645 yards rushing and 21 touchdowns. He was very productive for us. And he’s such a selfless player. He only wants to win. He doesn’t mind when other players get the ball instead of him. He’s really impressed me this Fall with his attitude.”

Cook is an extremely versatile player. He played wide receiver and tailback as a junior before switching primarily to tailback this year. He played yet another position – quarterback – in Heritage’s final 2 games. Though he will not play quarterback on the next level, he looked pretty good according to Coach Jones.

“The last 2 games he played quarterback,” Jones said. “And I’ll tell you, if he had played 4 years at quarterback he would have been comparable to [Gretna High School quarterback and Chris Cook ’s cousin] Vic Hall. In our game against Rustburg, he threw for 100 passing yards and 200 rushing yards before he got hurt in that game. He can throw and run. He has a strong arm.”
