Virginia opened the game with great field position and did nothing. That was as good as it got for the Jacket defense until the fourth quarter, when the ‘Hoos put the wraps on this one.

The passing game was efficient and the coaching staff called a “just what the doctor ordered” game for Marques Hagans. The junior QB hit 67% of his passes and displayed the confidence and determination that he showed early in the season.

But once again, it was the offensive line and Virginia’s power running game that ultimately spelled doom for the Rambling Wreck.

“It keeps wearing you down, and they bring those big bodies around the corner,” said Tech coach Chan Gailey. “They have a good scheme. They try to run the football with pulling linemen. They can all run. You have to find ways to stop that stuff. We were not able to get that done.”
