5-9, 174-pound speedster Mike Brown, one of the top commitments for the 2005 recruiting class, believes he will be able to make a significant impact for the University of Virginia. He’s hoping to make an impact soon, as he is aiming to play as a true freshman.

“I actually think I can play as a true freshman,” Brown said. “I’m going to be ready to play, but I have to earn it.”

The St. Peter’s Prep (Jersey City, N.J.) star will play cornerback for the Cavaliers. Having been timed at 4.37 in the 40-yard dash, his speed along with excellent cover ability are two big reasons why UVa told him he was their number one cornerback on their board.

At the time he committed to UVa, the UVa coaches told him they would not recruit another true corner for this year’s class.
