2006 Class: The Nation’s #1 Player

Percy Harvin ’s astounding play-making ability was on display this past weekend, when he and his Landstown varsity basketball teammates capped an excellent run in the state group AAA basketball playoffs with an appearance in the state championship game. Harvin shined in the contest, scoring 27 points in a narrow 74-71 loss to Woodside High School.

Being a big-time performer in a big-time setting is nothing new for Harvin, who is rated the nation’s number one rising senior by Rivals.com. In Landstown’s 2004 state championship football victory over Robinson High School, the 6-0 1/2, 185-pound Harvin had 476 total yards of rushing, receiving and returns. He scored four touchdowns including scores of 92 and 90 yards. Defensively, he made three interceptions. It was a truly phenomenal performance in the biggest game of his high school career.

“I don’t know what gets in me, but in every big game I always do something special,” Harvin said. “Like in basketball, the whole season I’d been averaging like 14 or 15 points, and that was the first game I had over 20. It’s just something I get going in championship games. I know it’s the last game so I give it all I got.”

These types of games and intense situations get Harvin’s competitiveness in high gear.
