2006 Class: Chris Bell a Top Target

State champion in the 110-meter hurdles two years running (freshman and sophomore years), Chris Bell certainly has established his credentials as a star in track and field. He has done so in football as well over the past two seasons and has received eight impressive scholarship offers early in the recruiting process.

“I haven’t counted them so I may leave somebody out, but UVa, Virginia Tech, Penn State, North Carolina, Florida, Nebraska, Michigan, and Maryland have offered officially,” Granby head coach Dave Hudak said. “That’s what I know of.”

There is more than just speed in Bell’s game. At 6-3, 205 pounds, Bell plays a physical brand of football and shows very good athleticism. Despite seeing double-coverage throughout last season, he managed to haul in 52 receptions en route to earning VHSCAA first-team all-state honors.

“He’s made all-district three years, was second-team all-region his sophomore year and first-team this year and all-state this year,” Hudak said. “I’d say his strengths are his speed and his strength. He’s got a nice frame on him, but he’s still improving. He’s working out and lifting weights and keeps getting bigger. He’s pretty physical as a receiver. You have to be physical to stop him. I can’t tell you how many tackles he broke even with two guys on him. He’s a big guy and he still has a lot of room for improvement. There’s a lot of things he can be taught and he’s willing to learn. He’s improving on little things all the time.”
