Gee One of Top NJ Defensive Prospects

Mike Gee only played six games last season for Queen of Peace (North Arlington, NJ), but he certainly made an impact. At defensive end, the 6-2, 240-pound prospect showed speed, toughness and quickness in wreaking havoc on opposing teams.

“He had to sit 30 days for us because New Jersey has a transfer rule,” Queen of Peace Defensive Coordinator Gabe Infante said. “If you varsity lettered somewhere else and transfer to a school you must sit 30 days before you can compete. He sat about 5 games for us. When he came back, he was a little rusty in his first game back but nonetheless people had a very hard time dealing with him. In a conversation with the [opposing] coach the next day, the kids from the other team said it really hurts when it hits you. The coach told one of his kids to cut [block] Mike on one play and basically Mike stepped over the kid and wiped somebody out. The coach went out there on a timeout and said ‘I thought I told you to cut him’ and the quarterback turned to the head coach and said ‘hey coach I think we better have two guys cut him’.”

Gee’s statistics – 26 tackles with 5 sacks and one interception – don’t truly show the success he had. An intimidator on defense, he made several key plays throughout the season. One in particular stands out to Coach Infante.

“He had a play against DePaul in the state championship game,” Infante said. “On a rocket screen, he gets a good pass rush on the quarterback, sees the ball thrown, pivots and then wipes the kid out on the screen. It was just a really athletic, phenomenal play. It was a de-cleater. It really set the tone for the rest of the game and we ended up winning the game. It was the first state championship in school history.”
