Lee Star Close to Offers?

Virginia, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest all visited Robert E. Lee High School in Staunton, Virginia, last week to evaluate J.R. Ware, a 6-5, 220-pound defensive end recruit who earned first-team all-state honors for his junior season performance last year. In addition to these three programs, Ware is garnering interest from many other Division 1-A programs. Are there any schools close to offering the athletic standout?

“He’s an ACC, Big East type of kid,” said Robert E. Lee Head Coach David Tibbs, who indicated that Nebraska, Illinois, Georgia Tech, N.C. State, Clemson, Maryland and West Virginia are among other schools sending letters right now. “He hasn’t received any formal offers because he hasn’t qualified academically. He’s working towards eligibility. He’s taking the SAT in the first week of June and the ACT in the second week. He hasn’t taken them yet. Once he takes the SAT I think he’ll easily be able to make the minimum.

“The minute he meets the sliding scale, I think Virginia’s waiting to pull the trigger. I’m sure Virginia Tech is. North Carolina and Maryland really like him.”

Tibbs believes UVa could be close to offering because of the interest they have shown up to this point.
