Before Oscar Smith star Brian Whitmore started receiving Division 1-A scholarship offers, one school stood out as his favorite. But now, with 14 offers in the fold, Whitmore wants to take a similar route as former teammate Greg Boone before making a commitment.

So, instead of making an early decision, Whitmore plans to make at least a few official visits and maybe all five. Boone took all five allotted trips before signing with Virginia Tech.

“Virginia Tech was always my favorite team,” said Whitmore. “That’s my hometown team. But I like LSU, Ohio State…all those teams. I’m considering Virginia. I’m going to give all the teams who have offered me an even shot. I probably won’t make any decision until my senior year.”

LSU, Maryland, North Carolina, Penn State, Tennessee, Virginia and Virginia Tech are among the 14 schools to offer. Of Whitmore, Oscar Smith head coach Richard Morgan said “I anticipate that he’ll have 15-20 offers by the end of May. Most consider him the #1 defensive line prospect in the state.”
