Wright’s Offer List Growing

Phoebus (Hampton, VA) head coach Bill Dee says Matt Wright is “capable of running a 4.5. He runs a consistent 4.6.” Wright lived up to coach Dee’s statement, as he was hand-timed at 4.6 flat in the 40-yard dash during the Tidewater combine several weeks ago. In addition, Wright, who is 6-2, 213 pounds, showed excellent strength by bench pressing 185 pounds 26 times.

Strength and speed are two of Wright’s major assets. Wright says his other strengths include “having a nose for the ball, I’m always flying around, I’m aggressive and I have a mean attitude out on the field.”

Wright was moved to linebacker at the start of his junior season last year, and Coach Dee felt that Wright progressed well throughout the year.

“He played defensive end his first two years and then we moved him to inside linebacker last year,” Dee said of Wright, who also plays tight end but is being recruited by most schools to play linebacker. “It had its moments early on, but as the year went on he became very good. I thought he was as good as anybody by the end of the year.”
