Chapman a Key Addition

Asa Chapman , who Orange (VA) head football coach John Kayajanian called “a gift” to his program, gave the Virginia coaching staff a gift of his own on Saturday. Chapman, a 6-5, 340-pound prospect who earned second-team all-region honors at defensive tackle last season as a junior, was one of three prospects to commit to the program.

“It was something that I was planning on doing, but I was waiting for the right time to do it,” Chapman said of verbally committing to UVa. “[The coaches] were excited. I’m definitely excited.”

Chapman enjoyed his visit on Saturday, which was UVa’s blue-chip day. On the blue-chip day, the staff invites some of their top targets to visit the campus all at once. Chapman is a key recruit who is a being recruited to play nose tackle.

“For the most part, I had a chance to talk to the coaches a lot more than I used to,” Chapman said of the blue-chip day. “There were a lot less guys. It was like only 16 guys there.”
