Speedy LB Discusses Decision

Comments from Virginia head coach Al Groh were a big factor in the commitment of Trenton Central (Trenton, N.J.) star linebacker recruit Almondo Sewell . Sewell committed during Saturday’s blue-chip day.

“It was what coach Al Groh said,” Sewell said. “He said he wants the best linebackers who are willing to play team football and willing to do anything to win. He said they want players who aren’t shy of contact and who want to go up in the holes and bust it up. I’m that type of player.”

Sewell plays one of the inside linebacker spots for Trenton Central, which implemented a 3-4 defense of its own last season. He adapted very well to the new position and finished with 92 tackles on the year, including 35 solo efforts and one sack. A running back in the wing-T offense, he rushed for 765 yards and 11 touchdowns.

The 6-2, 235-pound Sewell is a physical player with excellent speed.
