Rico Bell and the rest of the Vance (Charlotte, N.C.) enjoyed a dominating season opener, shutting out Concord in a 42-0 victory. Bell, who has received four Division 1A scholarship offers, played safety but also expects to see time at wide receiver later this season.

“We missed too many tackles, but we had an outstanding game statistically,” Vance head coach Jeff Simpson said. “We had negative 84 yards on defense. It was an amazing performance by our defense.”

Bell reminds Simpson, who is in his first year as Vance head coach, of former Virginia safety Willie Davis.
