3-star linebacker/tight end George Johnson begins his senior season this Friday, when Glassboro (N.J.) takes on Penns Groves in its season opener. The 6-4, 235-pound Virginia commitment has worked extremely hard this off-season and is stronger and faster heading into his fourth season playing varsity football.

When Johnson committed to the ‘Hoos in February, one of the primary assets in his scouting report was his speed. He had been timed in the 40 in 4.5 seconds. His speed has gotten even better over the off-season, as he claims he can now run in the 4.3s in the 40-yard dash. And he’s very strong as well, recently benching 225 pounds 16 times.

“It went good,” Johnson said of his off-season workouts. He worked with his cousin, who is his personal trainer, as well as with the team. “We worked on a lot of things to get better. We did a lot of sprinting, cardio and lifting. I feel the team and I have a lot more confidence than we did last year. I feel pretty good.”
