Last month, Dave Leitao landed his first ever verbal commitment as UVa’s head coach. It was from Sam Zeglinski , a top point guard for the 2007 class. Last night, Leitao landed his first verbal for the 2006 class when West Side High School’s (Gary, IN) 6-8 ½, 200-pound star forward Jamil Tucker chose the ‘Hoos.

Rated a 4-star prospect by Rivals.com and Scout.com, Tucker appears to be an outstanding pick-up for Leitao and company. He committed to Virginia following an official visit last weekend. He also made an official visit to Kent State and was receiving interest from Georgia Tech, Indiana and Miami as well.

A native of California, Tucker moved to Gary for his junior year of high school. He led West Side to the 4A state semifinals as a junior last season, averaging 24 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists per game. Extremely versatile for a big man, Tucker played the point guard position last season for head coach John Boyd. Tucker, who is known for an excellent outside shooting touch, projects as a small forward at Virginia but could play shooting guard or power forward.
