Adding at least one post presence in the 2006 recruiting class seemed to be a priority for Virginia head coach Dave Leitao. Well, yesterday, Virginia accomplished its goal when one of Alabama’s top prep stars verbally committed to the ‘Hoos.

The commitment is from 6-8, 220-pound power forward Johnnie Lett . The Ben C. Rain (Mobile, AL) standout, a 3-star recruit as rated by Rivals.com and Scout.com, was a finalist for 5A state player of the year last season.

“He has committed to Virginia,” said Lett’s stepfather Gregory Rankin. “He talked to Coach Leitao and Coach Seymour yesterday.”

Lett averaged 18 points and 15 boards last season as a junior and had drawn interest from schools including Alabama and Miami in addition to an offer from Virginia. He made an official visit to UVa on the weekend of October 15th and also took an official visit to South Alabama, which offered as well.

Lett’s commitment gives Virginia three commits for the 2006 class and barring attrition, UVa has now wrapped up recruiting for 2006. Leitao and company already have a 2007 commitment in Sam Zeglinski , a 6-0, 165-pound point guard out of Penn Charter High School in Philadelphia, PA.
