Sam Zeglinski has certainly shown his scoring capabilities for William Penn Charter School (Philadelphia, PA). After averaging 18 points-per-game in his sophomore season, he averaged about 19 points per game this season and went over the 1,000-point mark for his career. Zeglinski is needed more as a scoring point guard for his high school team, but his coach feels you’ll see a different type of player at the University of Virginia.

“He played well,” Penn Charter head coach Jim Phillips said of Zeglinski’s play this season. “He was first-team all-league, second-team all-city and second-team all-state. He played well. I mean, he did what we needed him to do. The hard thing for people who don’t know him to understand is that he’s really a consummate point guard. He’d rather not be scoring 20 points a game, but we need him to. Where as he would love to play a game and a great line for him would be shooting 4-7 from the field, scoring 10 or 11 points and dishing out 11 assists, he just doesn’t have the firepower around him to necessarily play that way. This is why I think he’s going to be such a different kid to watch play in college when he has other pieces to the puzzle which will allow him to be a true point guard.”

Zeglinski did average 5 assists and 3 steals to go along with his 19 points-per-game this season. Penn Charter finished with an 18-11 overall record including an 8-2 mark in the Inter-ac league. It was second in the Inter-ac behind powerhouse Episcopal, which featured top 2007 class players Wayne Ellington and Gerald Henderson.
