Virginia has gone to Northwest High School in Germantown, Maryland, in search of a defensive end recruit. The ‘Hoos found their recruit, as the staff has officially offered 6-4, 250-pound standout Justin Young . Young, who plays defensive end in Northwest’s (Germantown, MD) 3-4 defense, has good athleticism (3-sport athlete) to go along with an impressive frame. In two years on the varsity level, he has been a versatile player for head coach Randy Trivers.

“For us he’s played defensively on the front. He’s played tackle, he’s played end, he’s played in a 3-point stance and he’s played in a 2-point stance,” Trivers said. “He’s played all of the positions on the offensive line front as well as tight end. He’s a pretty versatile player. He has a good frame physically, with a good height and wingspan. He has the potential to grow quite a bit and fill out. He is 250 pounds right now and he could easily be 290 pounds after a year in college. I think he’s got very good agility and feet for a young man of his stature. I think that’s a good combination and what attracted the University of Virginia.”

As a junior last season, Young made 23 tackles including four tackles-for-loss. He added two fumble recoveries and one interception. He returned one of those fumble recoveries and his only interception for touchdowns. He made some big plays last season, but Young feels he can do better and is looking to prove that in his senior season.
