One of the top recruits in UVa’s 2006 recruiting class, former Oakton (Vienna, VA) running back Keith Payne earned AP AAA Player of the Year and VHSCA first-team all-state honors for his 2005 season performance. Payne rushed for 2,059 yards and 26 touchdowns in leading Oakton to a Division 6 state championship title in 2005. In the state title win over Landstown, he rushed for 245 yards and four touchdowns and helped slow down all-american receiver Percy Harvin .
Al Golden and Anthony Poindexter were the primary recruiters for the 6-3 standout. Payne will enroll at UVa on July 6th and plans to room with New Jersey linebacker Darnell Carter .
