But Desert Rose Band’s lyrics seem to capture the intended spirit of the phrase best, singing “One step forward and two steps back; Nobody gets too far like that.” With all due respect to their proverbial take, however, Desert Rose never played corner back – after all, the only way to get anywhere at corner is by moving backward.
