It is not too often that the University of Virginia football program recruits the Chicago area, but it has worked on occasion (see Nate Lyles ). Now, thanks to Defensive Backs Coach Steve Bernstein, the Cavs are in contention for another very good prospect in St. Rita High School’s 6-8, 255-pound defensive lineman Matt Conrath .

“I made an all-area banquet last year and I met Coach Bernstein there,” Conrath recalled. He is being recruited by UVa as a defensive end. “He couldn’t talk to me there, but that’s where I knew him from. This summer, he started recruiting me for Virginia. Their recruiting picked up and they offered me on September 1st. I’ve been talking with Coach Bernstein. Since he’s from this area, we’ve just hit it off.”

The Chicago area standout has never visited Virginia before, so his official visit scheduled for December will be his first experience in Charlottesville. He has also set an official visit to Stanford, a school he visited this summer.
