Talented Prospects Expected at UVa Tomorrow

Glennon will be at UVa tomorrow

Virginia will have its annual spring game tomorrow, and some standouts of the 2008 class are expected to be in attendance. The staff would is of course hoping to strengthen their stance with all of these prospects and, in some cases, perhaps take a step towards gaining early commitments.

List of expected visitors…
(These are players we have confirmed that are expected to be in attendance tomorrow. There are sure to be more.)

Mike Glennon – QB, Westfield (Chantilly, VA)
Dyrell Roberts – WR, Smithfield (VA)
Deion Walker – WR, Christchurch (VA)
Colter Phillips – TE, Georgetown Prep (North Bethesda, MD)
Buddy Ruff – DL, Norview (Norfolk, VA)
Scott Vallone – DL, St. Anthony’s (Long Island, N.Y.)
Donovan Miles – LB, Brooke Point (Stafford, VA)
Ausar Walcott – S, Hackensack (N.J.)

Each of these prospects has serious interest in Virginia. Each of the confirmed expected visitors listed above has made prior visits to UVa, and UVa has offered each of the above prospects.

Here are a few potential story lines to look out for in the coming days…

For Westfield’s Mike Glennon, tomorrow is important to get a better feel for the coaches and for how he fits into the future plans at the quarterback position. Glennon, who does not seem ready to make a decision any time soon, is also considering offers from Duke, Maryland and Virginia Tech.

Deion Walker has visited Virginia numerous times, but this visit may be the most important to date. The 6-3 wide receiver’s stock is sky-rocketing, as is his offer list. Virginia remains a serious contender here, but Walker is very interested in out-of-state schools as well.

Of the prospects listed above, UVa is in excellent position in particular with Colter Phillips and Ausar Walcott . According to Georgetown Prep head coach Dan Paro, Phillips recently visited UVa for a spring practice and will return tomorrow for another visit. Paro says the 6-6, 240-pound tight end recruit is “all about education,” which certainly bodes well for UVa. Phillips could make a decision before his senior season.

6-3, 210-pound Ausar Walcott visited Virginia for the February 24th junior day. Virginia was his favorite after that experience and that has not changed. As of now, he wants to make a decision before his senior season and possibly as soon as late spring/early summer. With UVa being the favorite for quite some time, don’t be surprised if a commitment happens sooner rather than later if he has another quality experience.

Klinton Ruff

UVa is also in good shape with talented Norview defensive lineman Klinton “Buddy” Ruff, who was impressed with a recent visit to Virginia Tech. Ruff’s decision seems likely to be an in-state battle. Also, St. Anthony’s defensive tackle Scott Vallone is making his second visit to UVa in as many weeks. UVa appears high on his list, which also includes Boston College, Maryland and Rutgers, among others.
