Peerman Shows Determination In Spring

Cedric Peerman finished the spring at the top of the depth chart for UVa running backs.

The 2006 season was a tough one for Cedric Peerman . In his sophomore year as a Cavalier, the tailback/kick returner from Gladys saw his development curve regress as his production slipped from 237 yards on 70 carries in 2005 to 153 yards on 46 carries in 2006. It was certainly not the path envisioned when he enrolled at Virginia on the heels of a standout four-year career at William Campbell High School.

“I think maybe I was just trying to do too much,” Peerman said of his play last season. “I was just not focusing on my game. I was trying to be somebody else that I’m most definitely not.”

And with Virginia fans drooling over the potential of both Keith Payne and Raynard Horne , each of whom redshirted last year, one could have forgiven Peerman if he had become discouraged. Rather than becoming the next Wali Lundy or Jason Snelling, it appeared as if Peerman was on track to be a bust recruit.
