Cavaliers Offer Freeman

Virginia is one of the more recent scholarship offers for Pelion (S.C.) junior Dalton Freeman , who is close to but not quite at the 20-scholarship offer mark. Ben Freeman, Dalton’s father and Pelion’s head football coach, sees his 6-6, 270-pound son surpassing that mark during the May evaluation period.

“He is up to 17 now,” Freeman said of his son’s scholarship total. “I think that’s going to increase in the next couple of weeks. Last week, UVa was in here the first day anybody could be out. Three coaches came in last Monday. Mike Groh, Anthony Poindexter and [Dave Borbely] came together. They had a good visit.”

The Freeman family plans to visit Virginia as well as Virginia Tech, which offered earlier in the process, in June. They were originally set to visit Virginia Tech for its spring game, which was canceled. They were eyeing a visit to Virginia that weekend as well.

“We were going to do that and maybe try and hit UVa in the same weekend,” Freeman said. “It’s looking now like June is when we will do it. Nobody could have predicted that [the tragedy] was going to happen. We do have in-laws that live in Roanoke, though, so we’ll just coordinate a visit with them. Actually, Dalton’s grandfather and his uncle both went to Virginia Tech.”
