Robinson (Concord, N.C.) 4-star offensive tackle R.J. Mattes has been to the University of Virginia many, many times over the years. The son of former Virginia standout Ron Mattes, R.J. grew up a Virginia fan. He had been to many games in the past and, most recently, attended camp in Charlottesville this summer. This weekend’s experience was different, though, as the 6-7, 275-pound prospect was on his official visit, so he was able to find out more about the University and how he fit in with the players and coaches.

“This time, I got to go out with the players and go check out everything. I went to the Corner. I went to the White Spot and had a Gusburger. I went to Mellow Mushroom. I got to see how all the guys lived and how everything was run,” Mattes said.

“It was a great trip overall. The highlight had to be the Gusburger (laughs). My talks with Coach Groh and Coach Borbs were real good. And the game atmosphere was great. Even though they lost, everyone was all pumped up. I had a great time.”
