Highland Springs Standout Commits to Virginia

In what has been a down year in recruiting the state of Virginia, the University of Virginia staff was able today to do something it has not been able to do under Al Groh’s tenure…it has landed a commitment from Highland Springs High School. Al Groh and company received the good news about an hour or so ago.

“I committed to Virginia,” Highland Springs senior tight end Rod Wheeler said. “I decided to commit after the talk I had with Mike Groh [during an in-home visit on Tuesday night]. He said they would use me like Tom Santi . I watched film of Santi and I liked what they did.”

Wheeler, a 6-3, 240-pound prospect, said the UVa staff was “very excited and proud to have me.” With the input of his family, he made the decision last night.
