Western Branch (Chesapeake, VA) junior Kevin Newsome , one of the top prospects in the 2009 class, now has two Division 1A scholarship offers in the fold. The 6-3, 205-pound quarterback has also received increased Division 1A interest over the past several weeks, so more offers could be on the way soon.

Virginia Tech was the first program to offer, and North Carolina recently became the second. Western Branch head coach Scott Johnson discussed the other interest his star junior has received.

“He has a lot of interest,” Johnson said. “N.C. State was in last week and is very interested. UVa has been in over the past three weeks. They are really, really interested. I know Kevin went out to Stanford a couple of weeks ago to take a look. Alabama called last week and wanted information about him. I talked with the grad assistant to [Alabama offensive coordinator] Major Applewhite. Penn State is very interested, too.
