Lovejoy (Atlanta, GA) defensive end Tory Allen was nervous heading into this morning’s meeting with University of Virginia head coach Al Groh. The 6-6, 220-pound prospect had not been told beforehand that he had a scholarship offer, although he was assured by primary recruiter Anthony Poindexter that everything would work out. He left this morning’s meeting with Coach Groh both happy and relieved.

He also left as a member of Virginia’s 2008 recruiting class.

“We woke up at eight this morning. I had a little meeting with Coach Groh,” Allen recalled. “He talked to my parents and then he talked to me. At the end, he offered me a scholarship to go to UVa. My parents and I had already discussed what would happen if he offered, so I committed right there. My parents really like the academics. I said it was a nice university and that I would like to go there. He said that he’ll be happy to have me on the team. He was trying to make sure that this is what I want to do, but I said it is.”
