Offensive line is one of the more pressing needs for the University of Virginia in the 2009 class, and today the Cavaliers landed its first offensive line commitment in Centreville (Clifton, VA) offensive tackle Luke Bowanko . The 6-6, 260-pound prospect pledged earlier today, four days after scoring an official scholarship offer from head coach Al Groh.

“I called Coach Dex, who I think is on the road recruiting and told him. He had to pull over he was so excited,” Bowanko said. “He was pretty happy. He said I made his day. That was during my lunch break. Once I got out of school, I called Coach Groh and he was pretty happy, too.

“I’ve been up to UVa more than any other school now and I really like the people up there. Every time I went, it was impressive. Nothing has ever shown as a down part on any trip I made. At other schools, maybe some parts were weaker. The Virginia coaches were always on top of their game. And, with my parents, UVa was always their number one choice for me. Basically, I got the offer, talked it over with my parents and head coach, and called today.”
