Last month, Maury (Norfolk, VA) athlete Laroy Reynolds made no secret that he was leaning heavily towards the University of Virginia. The 6-1, 207-pound rising senior was not able to attend Al Groh’s summer camp last month as he had previously planned, but he and Cavaliers primary recruiter Bob Pruett eventually settled on today as an opportunity for the versatile standout to check out UVa. Before heading home to Norfolk this afternoon, Reynolds gave head coach Al Groh some good news.

“I committed today,” Reynolds said. “After a whole day of visiting the campus, me, my parents and my cousin sat down with Coach Al Groh. We talked for an hour. After that, he asked if I had any more questions. I asked him when I could commit. He said right now and gave me a hug. Then he told Coach Pruett, who hugged me and my parents. It was exciting.”

Reynolds’ first trip to UVa was last November, for the Cavaliers home football game versus Virginia Tech. But today was the first opportunity he and his parents had to tour the entire university and facilities. Reynolds’ parents’ impression sealed the deal for Virginia.
