Kellam’s (Virginia Beach, VA) varsity football squad kicked off the 2008 season on the right note on Friday night, soundly defeating First Colonial 42-28. Head coach Chris DeWitt was pleased with his team’s offensive output, including the play of transfer offensive lineman Hunter Steward .

“We are a work in progress in the defensive side of the ball. Offensively, we are moving along,” DeWitt said. “We have a few new wrinkles. We have a quarterback who can throw the ball a little bit. Last week we had over 400 yards rushing and 80 yards passing including a 60-yard pass that was called back. I’m pleased with the offense.”

The Knights offense is headlined by two senior running backs, James Taylor and Sean Abrams. Friday night, Taylor rushed for 253 yards and Abrams accounted for close to 130 yards on the ground. Coach DeWitt expects both players to play football on the next level, however he is not sure exactly which level they may end up on.
