Inside The Game – USC

Jared Green managed to fly under the radar for much of the preseason. That quickly changed in front of a record Scott Stadium crowd on Saturday. Green made his debut for the Cavaliers with 3 catches for 40 yards, which tied Cary Koch for team-high honors against the Trojans.

After a redshirt year in 2007, the 6’2″ receiver hadn’t seen game action since his high school days at Oakton in 2006. As a senior, he only had 17 catches for 245 yards and four touchdowns in the run-oriented offense.

“Yeah, it’s been a while. I had to get the feeling back a little bit,” Green said. “But training camp brought it right back and the team, the way we practice and the way we prepare, it’ll get you back the feeling – you might think it’s a game in practice.”

The first catch of Green’s college career proved to be highlight film quality. Peter Lalich ‘s throw toward the home sidelines was high and to the outside in order to give Green the best shot at making the catch without risking an interception. Green leaped into the air with a defender there and made the reception before being shoved out of bounds.
