Miami Scouting Report: Defense & Punting

For the second consecutive week, the Cavaliers will face one of the top defenses in the nation when Virginia meets 5-3 Miami this Saturday in Scott Stadium. The Hurricanes hit the road for the first of three road games in the month of November to take on the ACC Coastal Divisional leader. UM is coming off a 16-10 win over Wake Forest to run its winning streak to three games.

Virginia claimed a huge road win last week against then No. 17 Georgia Tech, 24-17, to extend its own winning streak to four games. Marc Verica threw for 270 yards and two touchdowns against the Jackets. On the season, he is completing 67 percent of his passes and has thrown for 1,281 yards and five scores. Running back Cedric Peerman posted 118 yards rushing on 25 carries against Tech and has rushed for 541 yards and seven touchdowns on 95 attempts this season.

The Canes enter Saturday’s game ranked 50th in scoring defense, 34th in pass efficiency defense, 33rd in run defense, and 15th in overall defense by giving up just 283 yards per game. The Cavaliers faired well against the then fifth best defense in the nation a week ago in Atlanta. Can they do it again?
