After months of monitoring and evaluation, the University of Virginia extended a scholarship offer to 6-7, 300-pound offensive tackle Hunter Steward last week. The Kellam (Virginia Beach, VA) standout, a first-team all-Tidewater selection this season, discussed the offer and looked ahead to the remainder of his recruitment.
“They have been interested for a little while now. They just offered, with going to Fork Union for a year before that being a clause of the offer,” Steward said, discussing the Virginia offer. “I mean, I guess Fork Union isn’t 100-percent sure. It could just depend on if I get accepted at UVa.”
Steward has taken several unofficial visits to UVa, with the most recent experience being for the Clemson game. He has also visited Marshall, the only other Division 1A program to offer so far, unofficially. Marshall and Virginia are the primary contenders as far as Division 1A programs are concerned right now, but Steward admits he is open to other programs.
