New Virginia head coach Tony Bennett and company recently extended a scholarship offer to Michael Cobbins , a 6-8, 215-pound rising senior forward out of Palo Duro High School in Amarillo, Texas. Virginia is one of five offers for Cobbins, who has also been offered by Georgia Tech, Indiana State, New Mexico and Southern Cal.

Cobbins admittedly isn’t very familiar with UVa or its new basketball staff, but his first impression of assistant coach and primary recruiter Ritchie McKay is a positive one.

“I like the coaching staff,” Cobbins said. “They all seem like nice guys. Coach McKay seems like a real good guy. He pretty much told me the first time they saw me, they liked my game and how I played. They thought I would be the person they are looking for to fit inside their program.”
