Cox (Virginia Beach, VA) senior place-kicker Drew Jarrett is three months away from enrolling at the University of Virginia and suiting up for Al Groh’s football program. It’ll be an important season for the 6-0, 180-pound prospect, a recruited walk-on who is looking to earn a scholarship and possibly Virginia’s starting place-kicker job.

“I understand I have the ability to earn a scholarship by January provided the conditions work out for me. I’ll do the best I can and hope things work out. In terms of playing time, they told me I have to win the job. That’s all I expect,” said Jarrett, who will compete with rising sophomores Chris Hinkebein and Robert Randolph for UVa’s starting place-kicker spot.

“I’m working hard so I can get on the field and all that. At some point there is a certain feeling you get, knowing that you’ve worked hard to be able to do what you have to do when you get out there. If I do as well as I’ve been doing and keep improving, I shouldn’t have any problems on the field.”
