Archbishop Carroll (Washington, D.C.) 2010 class standout Jeremiah Attaochu is used to playing with a hand on the ground, but he is intrigued by the possibility of playing linebacker on the college level. The University of Virginia is one program projecting Attaochu as a linebacker – as an outside linebacker in the 3-4 defense, to be specific – and he was able to learn more about the position while visiting for UVa’s Future Wahoo Day earlier this month.
“When I went to Virginia for a junior day, Coach Groh showed me a lot of film and how to play the position,” said the 6-3, 225-pound Attaochu, who started at defensive end last season as a junior. “It is the same concepts as defensive end, only I’d have more responsibilities. I have to be able to be talented in pass coverage and in pass rush. I think I have pass rush down and I think I could get pass coverage.”
A 175-pound freshman, Attaochu has gained 50 pounds and now weighs in at 225 pounds. At 6-3, he has developed well over the past few years and has become a highly recruited prospect. Currently, he claims to have received 17 Division 1 scholarship offers including East Carolina, Illinois, Kansas State, Louisville, Maryland, Minnesota, Virginia and Temple, among others.
