Kevin Parks Jr. has been a stalwart running back for three years on West Rowan’s (Mount Ulla, N.C.) varsity football squad, rushing for 1,721 yards and 23 touchdowns as a freshman, 2,536 yards and 33 touchdowns as a sophomore and 2,864 yards last season as a junior. Parks, Virginia’s lone running back recruit in the 2010 class, has improved his strength and speed this off-season and eyes a second consecutive Class 3-A state championship for West Rowan.

“I stayed in the weight room this off-season and got a lot stronger. I’ve added 10 pounds of muscle,” said Parks, who stands 5-7 and now weights 200 pounds. He can bench press 305 pounds and squat 480 pounds. “I played basketball all summer and that kept me in shape. I needed that a whole lot. Mostly, I had a lot of weight lifting. I also got my 40 time down to 4.56. I worked on that a whole lot. That’ll be a main target of mine for next off-season, too.
