Top 2011 Target: C Marshall Plumlee

Marshall Plumlee ‘s Recruiting Card

The University of Virginia was in serious pursuit of Christ School (Arden, N.C.) forward Miles Plumlee in the 2008 recruiting class. Plumlee ultimately headed to Duke and will be followed by his brother, Mason, who signed with the Blue Devils in the 2009 class. Virginia, with new head coach Tony Bennett, is now in pursuit of the youngest Plumlee brother, Marshall. A 6-11 center, Marshall is entering his third year at Christ School and is already a highly sought after recruit.

Marshall’s father, Perky, says Arizona, Florida, Indiana, LSU, Michigan, Minnesota, Northwestern, N.C. State, Notre Dame, Purdue and Virginia have offered his son so far. A former basketball player at Tennessee Tech, Perky discussed Marshall’s game and how it compares to Miles and Mason, 6-10 prospects who possess nice perimeter skills and versatility.

“When you have more than one child, you know they all have different personalities,” began Perky. “Miles matured very late. For instance, Miles as a freshman was 5-10. He had always been in the backcourt. He went through a transformation. Marshall, though, has always been the tallest kid in his class. He has always played as a post player. He is now the tallest of the three boys. Some coaches like him because he seems like a throwback post man. I’ve encouraged him in that role. He likes playing down there, but he is trying to develop some basic face-the-basket skills. I don’t see him bringing the ball up the court. His brothers had to work on developing their interior skills. Marshall runs the floor pretty well. He has bits and pieces of his older brothers in there. Miles is probably the most athletic of the three. Mason is not far behind and Marshall is a nice athlete, too.”
