Last year against the Hoos: DNP

There is no history when it comes to this series – UVa and Southern Miss have never met on the football field. Shoot, Virginia’s football team has never even traveled to the state of Mississippi. With that said, the two teams’ separate history recently may tell the tale of this contest. The Cavaliers have lost six straight games. The Golden Eagles have won seven straight games. So Southern Miss owns the momentum factor – what about the rest of the match-up?

Unfortunately for the Hoos, the Golden Eagles appear to have an edge beyond the winning streak. They own a .734 winning percentage at home since 1976 while the Cavaliers are 3-8 in non-conference road games under Al Groh. Southern Miss has not allowed a 100-yard rusher in the past seven games and held UCF to 15 yards last week. UVa is averaging 94 yards rushing per game this season. The hosts are averaging 507.5 yards of total offense and 39.0 points per game. The visitors have allowed 28.0 points per game to date.
