Mitchell Becomes UVa’s 5th 2010 Commit

Multiple websites reported Wednesday evening that Akil Mitchell , a 6-7, 210-pound small forward out of Charlotte Christian (Charlotte, N.C.), had given a verbal commitment to the University of Virginia. Mitchell, a senior, is Virginia’s fifth commitment of the 2010 class.

TheSabre.com later confirmed the commitment through sources close to the Tar Heel state standout.

Mitchell attended Virginia’s Elite Camp in June, but did not receive an offer until this Tuesday, according to a report on ScoutsFocus.com (linked below). He quickly accepted the offer, completing Tony Bennett’s first full class as Cavaliers head coach.

A combo forward, Mitchell has ability in the post or on the perimeter. He is also an excellent student who carries a 4.0 GPA in the classroom. In the end, he chose UVa over offers from George Washington, James Madison, Liberty and Mercer, among others.

Stay tuned to TheSabre.com Thursday for more on Mitchell’s commitment.
