Al Groh

Over the final weekend of November 2009, Al Groh’s tenure as Virginia’s football coach officially concluded with a poem and a press release. And with that, an era once filled with promise ended with a precipitous and tumultuous decline.

Athletics director Craig Littlepage provided a simple and succinct statement. “There is not a coach in the college game who has worked harder than Al Groh in trying to build a football program. Football is his life and he dedicated himself to the University and to our football team. We are grateful for his service and for his commitment to his players and his coaching staff.”
