The offense sputtered, the defense struggled and the special teams stuttered as the Cavaliers suffered their sixth consecutive loss and their 13th loss in their last 16 games. It looked promising for a while, but in the end it was the final loss of the Al Groh era.

QB Jameel Sewell delivered a strong performance in the first half but could not sustain it. There were some good moments but far too few as the Virginia defense played poorly from the outset getting burned through the air in the first half and brutalized on the ground in the second. In what has so often been the case this season, many of Virginia’s wounds were self-inflicted from untimely sacks to untimely turnovers. Credit should also be given to the opponent who showed the difference between a club that executes at critical junctures of a game and one that does not.
