Travis Hughes Adds Two Official Offers

Kempsville (Virginia Beach, VA) junior running back/linebacker Travis Hughes received official scholarship offers from Maryland and N.C. State in 2009. The 6-1, 215-pound prospect has matched that total in 2010, bringing the total number official offers he boasts to four … with one more possibly on the way soon.

“I have two more official offers and a verbal offer from Virginia. My official offers came in from West Virginia and Virginia Tech,” Hughes said, giving an update on the latest on his recruitment. Duke has also started to express interest. “Then, UVa coach Chip West, who is a real nice guy, said they like me and gave me a verbal offer. Tom Bratton and Ralph Friedgen are coming down to my school to see me Thursday, so I’m excited about that.”

Originally, Virginia Tech has requested for Hughes to attend a summer camp before offering. The Hokies apparently changed their thinking, and the Kempsville product is pleased with the change.

“I had a pretty good highlight tape this year, so I guess that sold it for them,” Hughes said. “Coach [Curt] Newsome came through my school. They are cool people and I love them to death. He said they would shoot me an offer and I got it.”
